What Is AMD?
Age-related macular degeneration is a disease affecting the macula, the central portion of the retina responsible for detailed vision.

Importantly, AMD does not affect everyone in the same way.

There are three stages of the disease, and treatment depends on what is happening inside the retina.
Dry AMD vs Wet AMD:
Dry AMD
The most common form of AMD.
It can progress from early disease (stage 1) to intermediate disease (stage 2).
Some patients eventually progress to geographic atrophy (stage 3), where areas of retinal tissue are permanently lost.

Wet AMD
A less common but potentially more rapidly progressive form caused by abnormal blood vessels growing beneath or within the retina.
