What Is Valeda Light Therapy?
Valeda uses carefully controlled light (photobiomodulation) to provide a noninvasive treatment option for certain patients with dry AMD.
The Valeda Light Delivery System delivers specific wavelengths of non-coherent light to the eyes. This treatment approach, known as photobiomodulation (PBM), is being studied for its effects on cellular energy production and retinal health.
The FDA authorized Valeda in 2024 as a Class II medical device for dry AMD. Its intended use is to treat or improve visual acuity in patients with dry age-related macular degeneration.

Is Valeda Right for Everyone With AMD?
Valeda is specifically intended for a defined population with dry AMD. It is not a treatment for wet/neovascular AMD. Patients with center-involving geographic atrophy are outside the FDA-authorized indication.
Your doctor will also consider other eye conditions, medications, photosensitivity and your overall ocular health before recommending treatment.
The FDA documentation lists additional populations and conditions for which safety and effectiveness have not been established, so candidacy should be determined individually rather than based solely on an AMD diagnosis.
