Child with Contact Lens

Soft Contact Lenses

Contact lenses are a safe, medical-grade solution for clear vision at any age when properly fit and cared for by your eye doctor.

Whether you’re a child, teen, or adult, we will fit a soft contact lens which best meets your needs.

What Are Soft Contact Lenses?

Soft contact lenses are thin, flexible medical devices made of advanced materials that allow oxygen to pass through to the eye. They rest comfortably on the eye’s surface and provide clear vision without the need for glasses.

Whether you’re nearsighted, farsighted, or have astigmatism or presbyopia, there is a soft contact lens option designed for you.

Why Choose Soft Contact Lenses

  • Freedom from glasses – Perfect for sports, activities, or simply a glasses-free look.

  • Comfort – Advanced lens materials keep eyes hydrated and comfortable all day.

  • Safe for kids and teens – With proper supervision and care, soft contact lenses are safe even for young children.

Contact Lenses for Kids

Many parents don’t realize that children as young as 8 years old can successfully wear and care for contact lenses. For specialty reasons, even children younger than 8 can be fit in contacts.

Beyond convenience, lenses can be an important tool for:

  • Active lifestyles – Perfect for sports and extracurricular activities.

  • Improved self-esteem – Many children feel more confident without glasses.

  • Myopia control – Certain soft contact lenses (like MiSight®) are FDA-approved to slow the progression of nearsightedness in children.

Contact Lenses for Adults & Presbyopes

As we age, the eye naturally loses its ability to focus up close, a condition called presbyopia. For adults who don’t want to rely on reading glasses, there are several soft contact lens solutions:

  • Multifocal Contact Lenses – Provide both distance and near vision in the same lens, similar to bifocal or progressive glasses.

  • Monovision Correction – One eye is corrected for distance and the other for near vision. The brain adapts to blend the images.

  • Distance-Only Lenses – Some patients prefer clear distance vision with contacts, paired with simple reading glasses for close work.

With these options, adults can enjoy the freedom of contact lenses without sacrificing near vision clarity.

Caring for Your Contact Lenses

1. Proper Cleaning & Storage
  • Always wash and dry your hands before handling lenses.

  • Never rinse or store lenses in tap water.

  • Never sleep in contact lenses without an FDA-approved lens specifically for doing so.

2. Lens Replacement Schedules
  • Daily disposables – Wear once, then discard. Safest and most convenient.

  • Bi-weekly or monthly lenses – Must be cleaned and stored nightly in fresh solution.

3. Solutions
  • Multipurpose solutions – Easy and convenient for cleaning and storing daily-wear lenses.

  • Clear Care® hydrogen peroxide solution – A deep-cleaning option that’s great for patients prone to deposits or allergies. Lenses must sit in the case for at least 6 hours before wearing.

4. Lens Case Hygiene
  • Replace your contact lens case every 1–3 months.

  • Rinse only with contact lens solution, never water.

Contact Lenses Are a Medical Device

It’s important to remember that contact lenses are not one-size-fits-all. They are medical devices that must be properly fitted and prescribed by an eye doctor.

Wearing lenses without regular eye exams or from unverified sources can put you at risk for serious eye infections or vision loss.

When to Call Your Doctor Immediately

If you wear contacts and notice any of the following, remove your lenses and call us right away:

  • Redness that doesn’t improve after removing lenses

  • Eye pain or discomfort

  • Blurry or hazy vision

  • Discharge or excessive tearing

  • Light sensitivity

These may be early signs of an infection that requires prompt treatment.
